City Manager

Description

Randleman is located in the heart of North Carolina - just twenty minutes south of Greensboro and an hour and fifteen minute drive to either Raleigh or Charlotte.  After the completion of new interstate 74, Randleman is in a prime position to take advantage of future growth opportunities.  Randleman’s roots can be traced back to the early textile mills that grew up along the Deep River.  Today, the City of Randleman is home to a mix of old and new industries, along with a variety of commercial, retail, and residential areas.  Joint efforts of the city and the business community have produced a revitalized downtown and the creation of a community space used for all kinds of festivals and events.  This partnerships continues with a focus on renovating parks and working to connect citizens back to the scenic river that runs through the City.

Randleman, population 4,189, is well-poised for a future that is expected to bring new opportunities and a continued high quality of life to its residents.  Infrastructure projects are likely part of Randleman’s future as growth is anticipated through 311 corridor and future development of the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite.  Specific projects include utilities system repair and improvement such as implementing a remote reading for water meters.  Water is delivered through intragovernmental utility services.  Collection, distribution, and line maintenance are responsibilities of the City.  Sewer system needs are present and in the next few years the City will need to make some long term strategic capital plans and commitments.  The City of Randleman has a general fund of $5,113,500 and a water and sewer fund of $2,421,200 for a total budget of 7.5 million dollars.  Services are delivered by 60 full-time employees in the departments of Administration, Fire, Parks & Recreation, Planning & Zoning, Police, Public Works, Library, and Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Randleman has a stable board with the incumbent Mayor and two members re-elected in November 2017.  The other three seats are up for election in 2019.  Since 1990, Randleman has had four Managers, with 6.5 years as the average tenure.  The next City Manager is expected to be a leader.  The City enjoys seasoned and professional department heads and is also in good financial condition.  Therefore, the City seeks a candidate with demonstrated skills in team leadership, superior interpersonal management, and project management skills.  The Board appreciates a candid communicator of independent thought as an advocate of the community.  The next City Manager should be familiar with concepts of growth management especially related to road system improvements and utilities improvements.  A focus of future attention will be attracting, retaining, and expanding businesses through advocacy and understanding of the business environment.  Specific areas of business expansion include hospitality and restaurants.  The City has a strong relationship with two Chambers of Commerce.  Grantsmanship will be helpful in this work.

Requirements

The basic desired qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in public administration or a related field. A candidate may distinguish themselves with a master degree. The City seeks an experienced public administrator with five (5) years of progressive experience, preferably in NC municipal administration, including planning and directing the delivery of public services.   The City places an emphasis on the Manager being a member of the ICMA and/or NCCCMA. The Board supports and encourages the Manager to be or become an ICMA credentialed manager within a reasonable period of being employed.

Randleman is great place to work and play and the Board of Alderman expect the City Manager to reside in Randleman but arrangements and timing are negotiable.

Salary

The salary for this position is negotiable based upon the candidate’s qualifications and experience, anticipated salary is between $65,000 and $85,000, and is supplemented by an excellent benefit package.

Public Works Technician I

Description

The City of Randleman (pop 4,400), located approximately 15 miles south of Greensboro in Randolph County, North Carolina is seeking a Public Works Technician I to join our progressive organization.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  performing routine manual labor, general landscaping, digging, equipment maintenance, patching pipes and pavement, operating city vehicles, and other labor intensive tasks.  Work may also be performed as a member of a sanitation collection crew and includes collecting municipal garbage, yard waste, and refuse from residences and business, performing maintenance and cleaning of city vehicles and equipment, and other assigned tasks by the Public Works Director.  Work is manual labor intensive.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or GED equivalency is desired; some manual labor experience and prior experience working in sanitation and waste collection is desired; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  NC Driver's License is required.  NC Commercial Driver's License is required within 6 month of employment.   Physical strength and endurance to perform continuous manual labor work in a variety of environmental conditions.

Salary

$22,933.00 and DOQ.

Community Center Attendant

(part time)

Description

The City of Randleman (pop 4,400), located approximately 15 miles south of Greensboro in Randolph County, North Carolina is seeking an Community Center Attendant to join our progressive organization.  Responsibilities include providing guest services to the citizen of Randleman and Community Center customers to enable a positive, safe, clean and enjoyable recreation environment.  This position helps Community Center patrons with registration for sports leagues and community center memberships, collects fees, and assists patrons with community center equipment.  Other duties include scheduling and reserving of event spaces, enforcing Community Center rules and regulations, communicating with citizens, customers, coworkers and supervisors in a polite and courteous manner and performing other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or GED equivalency is required.  May have to have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Pay Rate

$8 per hour
