How do I become a volunteer firefighter?
The first step is simply coming to the fire department and obtaining an application. Our volunteers are required to obtain fire classes and attend training provided at the fire station.

The fire department ensures that our personnel are always in a state of readiness to respond when called upon. The firefighters on shift work for a full 24 hours with no scheduled breaks. This means that they are required to purchase their own meals. The crews that you see out in the fire district have radios and pagers that keep them in constant contact with Randolph County 9-1-1 and other personnel within the fire department.
What do the firefighters do when they are not responding to fire calls?
Firefighters work 24 hour shifts. When not on emergency calls, training and equipment maintenance take up a majority of a firefighter's time. Constant training is required so that department personnel are ready to handle any type of emergency. The maintenance and cleaning of the stations is part of the firefighter's day. Pre-incident planning and community service is also conducted while a firefighter is on shift.
Would it save time to call the fire station directly instead of 9-1-1 when there is an emergency?
No, The firefighters could be on another call when you are attempting to contact the fire station's direct line. Even if fire personnel are at the fire station they will still have to activate the 9-1-1 system to ensure a proper response. The 9-1-1 system is designed to save valuable seconds when an emergency occurs. By dialing 9-1-1, you are ensuring that the proper fire, EMS, and police departments are notified.
If there is only a small fire, why do so many fire trucks respond?
The City of Randleman Fire Department has policies in place for responses to emergency situations. This is to ensure that we have adequate personnel and proper apparatus on scene. If after arrival the Incident Commander determines further units are not needed, they are released.

The fire department does not offer station tours at this time due to restrictions associated with COVID. The firefighters on duty enjoy showing children and groups the facility, apparatus, and our current fire dog, Ashes. We look forward to being able to provide this service to the citizens again.
How do I obtain a copy of an Incident or Investigative report?
A Fire Incident Report is created for every call that the City of Randleman Fire Department responds. A request for a report can be made by calling the fire station at 336-495-7530 or in person at Station 5 located at 105 Hilliary Street.
